Bonjour,
Goa
Hi, Phnom Penh is a really nice city, arrived by night we saw monkeys climing the walls, quite amazing for us! The Goa made discover a TukTuk ride to his parents, with 5 people and our luggage, we arrived alive in the hotel...The Cambodians are really sweet, quiet and polite, Goa is really happy. Despite a really tragic past, they keep smiling (despite war, the Khmer Rouge genocide in 1976 and mines). Goa visited S-21 a former school converted into a secret prison (and torure camp) by the psychopath Pol pot. To sum up, in 1975, Phnom Penh was caught by the Khmer Rouge and everything was stopped and forbidden: religion, culture, freedom, hapiness... and the population was explused from the cities to work in coorperatives in the country (families were also separated). All oponent or suspect was killed without trail or proof. 2 millons death and many refugees after, in 1979, they were expulsed by the Vietnameese after attacks in the border of Vietnam. The country slowly starts to rediscover life after this trauma and tragedy...
Despite this, Phnom Penh is a really beautiful city, with the amazing king palace as nice as the one in Bangkok. There are also some colonial houses, nice museums, the visit is really a must do in Cambodia.
